About Us
First Bank & Trust Company We’ve stood the test of time since 1895
Wagoner was still a frontier community when First National Bank – the
predecessor of First Bank & Trust Company – opened its doors here in 1895.
On August 1, 1895, a charter was issued by the Treasury Department to
the First National Bank of Wagoner, Indian Territory, and on October 1,
1895 the bank opened for business. There were 14 depositors at the end
of our first day’s business, with total deposits of $10,918.02. All
bookkeeping and correspondence was handwritten.
The bank was located on the corner of Main and Cherokee in Wagoner
for 74 years. In 1968 the ownership of the bank changed and a new building
was built on the corner of Casaver and Church streets. Bookkeeping was
updated with the installation of computers and a drive–thru window was
added for the convenience of customers.
The bank’s charter was changed to a State charter in 1970, and the
name was changed to First Wagoner Bank & Trust Company. The name was
shortened to First Bank & Trust Company in 1987 after purchasing the
First National Bank of Luther from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
and re-opening that institution as a branch.
With continued growth in deposits and customers, a larger drive-thru
facility was constructed adjacent to the main bank property and automated
teller machines were installed for customer convenience. The main bank
building has twice been enlarged.
The success of any bank can be best measured over a long period of years,
not by its growth in deposits alone, but by the number of life-long friends
it has made, through rendering helpful, willing service. In this bank, we
place a high value on our friends, many of whom have been customers for a
great length of time. These individuals, as well as all of our new friends,
are responsible for the bank being able to endure and prosper over these
past 100 plus years. First Bank & Trust Company is one of the oldest banks
in Oklahoma.
The directors, officers and employees of First Bank & Trust Company are proud
of the Wagoner and Luther communities and pledge to continue contributing to
their growth and prosperity.
